Animation Style.

I’m really excited to be doing this final as I have chosen a piece that suits me. I am doing a traditional animation piece mixed with 2D animation, paper cut out animation and clay animation. There is much to do but I’m really excited but also nervous.
I have mixed all of these animation styles because I absolutely love working in these mediums when it comes to animating. The 2D scenes are when Emily is at home on earth, after her fairy god-mother turns up and grants her a wish Emily is taken on a wild and fun journey.

The first world she enters is the paper cut out world set in a mystical sea full of friendly sea creatures and mermaids. At first I was aiming to keep it very traditional with just paper. But I kept having ideas to add in mixed media, I spoke to my teacher Luke and he suggested to not hold back. This got me excited and now my paper cut out sea world will be mixed media which will be so much fun creating and will provide many options to be clever and creative when it comes to animating.

The second world is a clay world. This world I have aimed for it to be colourful and fun not only when it comes to animating but also to watch. I have aimed for the clay creatures to be very simple and not overly complicated as I do not have the time for such an animation. I am mostly excited to create their home (background) as it also will be mixed media.

The stop motion worlds I am aiming to get done as soon as I can, as there is only one camera and computer at uni for me to use. There is a large intake this year also which means there will be a few students wanting to book out the camera. I am actually rather worried about when it comes time to filming the stop motion as there are many things when it comes to booking the equipment and room that can go wrong. But there is not much point worrying about it, I just need to make sure I am organised and prepared for the weekends I am aiming to book and animate in.

Treatment and Story-line.

Once upon a time there lived a girl named Emily, she lived in a cardboard box with her cat Motka. Though she had little she still smiled and was always kind, but Emily was very lonely and was unhappy as all she wanted was family.

One night Emily was getting ready for bed in her cardboard house fixing up her blanket for Motka. She stared off into the distance with sadness in her eyes, Motka looks up at her and after a meow snuggles his head up against her. Emily spares a small smile, tho the loneliness and sadness was clear. She then looks up to the sky, closes her eyes and makes a wish.

Suddenly her fairy godmother appears and creates a door for her. The Fairy opens it inviting Emily to walk through. Emily stands up and walks through with a smile and disappears leaving Motka very confused.

Emily falls into an ocean and is then dragged under water by a mermaid who takes her deeper and deeper as she says hello to pleasant ocean creatures. The mermaid brings her to a friendly octopus that gives her eight gifts that had been given to him by other sea creatures and put into one big bag, the gifts include a hat, some gloves, and some shoes. A giant clam opens and reveals the next door and Emily waves goodbye and swims through.

Emily falls through dripping wet into a world of colour, smiles, laughter and celebrations. Emily is blow dried with a giant dryer which is then transformed into a beautiful jumper and put in a bad and given to her. Emily is then twirled and spun as she is pushed through the crowd pampering her with gifts and love. The crowd waves goodbye as she opens the last door and walks through disappearing once again with bags of gifts in her hands.

Tumbling through the door after her full on yet fun journey Emily finds herself back home, to her cardboard box and cat wondering where on earth she had been. With heavy arms Emily drops the bags in her cardboard house and sits to look at all the gifts and reminisce on what had just happened.

Emily's face is still beaming with joy but as she looks around she notices that there is no-one to celebrate with, except her cat. Disappointed and sad once more Emily looks to the ground when she notices an elderly lady who is also homeless shivering in the cold. Emily looks back to her bags and rampages through them to find a jacket she was given. Grabbing the coat Emily runs to the lady to give it to her. Emily then comes back and looks around at all her gifts, her face lights up as she realises that giving is happiness.

Emily is joyful as she sits by a fire surrounded by new friends all wearing thing she had given them. Sounds of laughter fill the air as a frown is now very rare.
